Duty Calls
For many years Call of Duty has been a top-ranking game across multiple gaming platforms. Throughout its evolution, it has reached so many people in so many different ways, with its stories, content, and multiple styles of play.
For most video gamers Call of Duty is a household name. Releasing back in 2003 the original “Call of Duty” had the goal to capture the devastatingly heart-throbbing stories of WWII. The Infinity Ward game developers set the first game around the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944. The game set a template for future games to come with its hallmark steups and effects including cinematic set-pieces, multiple playable characters, a vast army of computer-controlled allies and those dizzying sensory distortion effects when you’re caught near an explosion. This trend of “sensory distorting gaming” has been taken to another with call of duty’s multiple games and storylines. After the first game fans quickly flocked to the newest first person shooter gaming style. Also known for “revolutionary” multiplayer gaming that allowed playing with others. Later on it released its online play which completely captivated the gaming world. The online gaming became problematic with player negligence in the form of language. Online First person shooter gaming has reached the pinnacle of his existence (or so we think). One thing has always been a constant in these first person shooter games like “Call of Duty“, would be the language and dialogue used by its players. no matter how the game changes year-by-year there’s always been phrases that have been passed along. Such as “watch out for the camper“ or “ grenade!“ Although these things could seem to be helpful banter between the players. There are also more Infamous phrases that have made it to the limelight because of the competitiveness of the players. With this competitiveness mixed with the international use Of the United States Of America's first amendment (Specifically the freedom of speech), The new normal dialogue is filled with extreme prejudice and the most vile profanity the human mind can think of. Though it is disgraceful and distasteful it became a part of the culture. As well as the different playing styles like “camping”. One of which most multiplayer gamers hate to encounter,”the camper”.
With this style of play campers usually Find a generally highly trafficked place to sit and observe other players pass by. With this style of play it is usually best for no one else to know where you are so that you can easily rack up on kills. This is usually the easiest way level up or gain weapon experience (if the game offers such milestones). Although it is the easiest it is not seen as the most conventional way to play. As far as styles go it is shunned the most but the most utilized style of play for easy gain. Call of duty is an all time favorite and it will it has remained that way with all of the good and the bad.
